Mark Rood

Dr. Mark Rood is an experienced Family Physician and serves as Staff Physician, Site Leader and former Research Fellow at Cleveland Clinic. He is a leader in the healthcare community in Northeast Ohio, a researcher in Health Policy and Telemedicine, a strong advocate for Healthcare Reform and Women’s Health and an innovator in Medical Student Education. His original research documenting the negative effect of barriers to prescription drug access on patient outcomes has been published in the Journal of Family Practice, as has his first-hand account of how Cleveland Clinic effectively used telemedicine to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the Family Medicine Lead Physician for Express Care Online, he helped Cleveland Clinic start its telemedicine initiative in 2015 and continues as an active researcher exploring both acute and chronic care applications, presenting his findings at the Society of General Internal Medicine and SEARCH (Society for Education and the Advancement of Research in Connected Health) Annual Meetings in 2017 and 2018. His collaborative research using a nationwide telemedicine database has resulted in six journal articles published in peer reviewed journals, including Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA IM, and Journal of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Rood serves as Assistant Professor in Family Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and created and serves as Director of a unique Primary Care Telemedicine elective for 4th year CCLCM, OUHCOM and Case medical students as well as APP’s, Residents and Fellows.
