Karen Moran

Karen Moran is Senior Vice President, Commercial Product & Strategy at EmblemHealth.  In this capacity, Karen has accountability overseeing enterprise product and network strategy, as well as individual, small group and specialty business results. In addition, Karen leads a cross-functional group to develop, maintain and ensure execution of our growth strategy for the enterprise.  Prior to taking on these responsibilities, Karen was accountable for EmblemHealth’s Administrative Services Only products, Dental, Vision, Telemedicine, and Network Access businesses, as well as the oversight of EmblemHealth’s Health Savings Account administrator and the development of Life and Disability distribution partnerships and alternative care solutions.

Prior to joining EmblemHealth, Karen was the Executive Director of Aetna’s Federal Plans business, which serves the United States Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as a client, and offers medical, pharmacy, dental and vision solutions for all eligible participants in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP).  In this capacity, Karen was responsible for Profit and Loss of approximately $2B in annual revenue, leading business operations, strategy, sales, marketing, and compliance for Aetna’s risk-based federal business.

Prior to joining Aetna’s Government Services segment in 2014, Karen was Senior Vice President of MedTech Healthcare Solutions. Karen was responsible for corporate development and strategic planning for the overall business, including the early development and vetting of a multi-year healthcare-financing product utilizing stop loss and Captive solutions and efficiency improvements for subsidiary companies.

From 2008-2013, Karen served as the Head of Shared Administration and TPA Relations in Aetna’s Public and Labor Segment.  Karen had Profit and Loss and overall accountability for Aetna’s Joint Claim AdministrationSM (JCA) business, including system and operations effectiveness, new business growth, and client retention.  She was also responsible for the development and oversight of other non-traditional administration models with Third Party Administrators including Aetna® AdminLink.

Following the passage of the Medicare Modernization Act in 2003 and until 2008, Karen helped to build the Aetna National Accounts Retiree Markets team and was responsible for Medicare Advantage (MA) and Prescription Drug Program (PDP) product development efforts, as well as the execution of targeted product and service strategies for National Accounts and Public-Sector plan sponsors with current and future retiree liabilities.  Karen began her career in Aetna’s National Accounts Sales and Marketing organization. 

Karen currently serves as Chairperson for the EmblemHealth Medical and Dental Services and GHI Article 28 Board of Directors.  Karen previously served on the Rutgers Design Thinking Board of Directors and well as the Board of Directors for the Special Olympics of New York. 

Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT and a Master of Business Administration from Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT.
