Carol DeFrances

Carol DeFrances, Ph.D., is currently the Acting Director of the Division of Health Care Statistics (DHCS) at CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The Division conducts the National Health Care Surveys, a family of nationally representative surveys of health care providers ranging from ambulatory and inpatient to outpatient and long-term care settings. She is leading efforts to modernize the National Health Care Surveys to electronic data collection utilizing electronic health record data. Prior to becoming Acting Director, Dr. DeFrances served as the DHCS Deputy Director, and the DHCS Chief of the Ambulatory and Hospital Care Statistic Branch.
