Dr. Ferry trained at the University of Texas, Health Science Center at San Antonio and is board certified in Family Medicine and Preventive Medicine specialties. She served as the Program Director/Assoc. Dir. of the Preventive Medicine Residency of Loma Linda University School of Medicine 1988 to 2015 and is Chief, Preventive Medicine Section, Loma Linda VA from 1988 to the present. She is an author, researcher, public speaker and academic leader in Preventive Medicine. She pioneered the original research on bupropion (Zyban) as the first non-nicotine treatment for tobacco dependence (1990-94) at the Loma Linda VAMC. Since 2018, she engaged the VA Virtual Medical Center for weekly tobacco support groups for high-risk smoking Veterans funded by a VA Innovations award. In 2019, she received a Joint Incentive Fund 2-year award by the Health Executive Committee DoD/VHA to develop a patient education center in the VA VMC for Prevention of Cardiovascular disease in partnership with the DoD.
