Lisa Suennen
Lisa Suennen has spent 30 years in healthcare as entrepreneur, advisor and venture capitalist. Today she is Leader of Manatt Phelps & Phillips Digital and Technology Practice and Leader of Manatt Venture Fund. Her role spans technology across all sectors, although she works especially closely with Manatt Health as Managing Director. For that practice, she is responsible for leading digital health initiatives working with payers, health systems, life sciences and medical technology companies and venture capital/PE funds to provide strategic advice on innovation models, digital health strategy, new product initiatives, and market entry strategy.
Lisa is also on faculty at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business where she teaches the annual class on healthcare venture capital.
Lisa spent the last 20+ years in venture capital, most recently leading the GE Ventures healthcare fund and previously as a partner with Psilos Group, a healthcare venture fund. Prior to that, she was part of the leadership team that built Merit Behavioral Care from startup to an $800mm revenue behavioral healthcare company and through its successful IPO and exit. She previously worked in product management and marketing roles in the technology field.
Lisa serves on the Boards of Directors of digital health companies Health Reveal, Inc. and HealthXL. She also chairs the advisory board of the NASA -funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health that is responsible for identifying innovative approaches to reduce health risks to humans on long-duration exploration missions, including NASA’s Journey to Mars. Lisa is also a Fellow of the inaugural class of the Aspen Institute’s Health Innovators Fellowship.
Lisa is the author of the widely-read Venture Valkyrie blog and co-hosts the Tech Tonics podcast.
